Happiness, its definition in life and love.

Life is like a train. It goes on and on, and on.

In the book 'letters to Sam' by David Gottlieb, David narrated his experience at  Lincoln University's commencement, while being invited to give a speech, he asked the students 'why they worked their best to get into the best college' (in US, college is referred as universities) and from then on, he took them in into the topic of happiness. When asked, the students replied that they did their best to become successful, to achieve their dreams or goals, so that they can be happy. David then explained that achieving their goals gave them security and happiness. One of the students said that having a million dollars in his bank account would make him happy, while the other replied that happiness is when he became top of his career.  None of them spoke of love, relationship, children, community or friends. This idea kept me thinking. While we are all busy chasing our dreams, encountering hurdles in life, time is not, at any point, going to stop. What really matters is what you do with it and that whether you are satisfied with it. For one thing, to get rid or poverty and the need to worry about money, then it would be a good environment to live in.After these all are satisfied, then it would be to love. David Gottlieb pointed out that the way to be happy is to love someone, then love that person more the next day, and love a new person the next. This world just lack love. It is too materialistic. Isn't this one of the very few differences of homo sapiens and other creatures? -to love.

David Gottlieb spent his life talking in radio shows and counselling people, making the best out of his sufferings from quadriplegia. He was, unfortunately, involved in a motorway accident, ran down by a lorry , while he was on his way to get his wife's anniversary present. Since then, he was paralyzed from the neck down, diagnosed with pervasive development ability, a severe form of autism. Years later, his wife left him. But life goes on, and he survived from all of the obstacle laid in front of him.

While we are idly living our lives, it is worth noting that there are people out there suffering and that we should not let ourselves being overwhelm by our own concerns.though I believe that love comes in many forms and it is definitely not narrowed down only to affections between lovers. To maintain good-hearted and do more good deeds, shan't the world be a little more lovely? Yet, sometimes, people tend to be blinded , forgetting their true selves. Nobody is born to be evil. I have heard a story once, it is roughly something like that: A university professor, once told his students that he is suddenly gone blind. When his student visited him, he could not remember their names, so he asked them to describe themselves. The students talked about their appearance, character and their dreams. At the end of each visit, the professor would told them remember who you are and never to forget yourself. Some students thought he had gone mad. A few months later, the professor recovered from his blindness. It just shows that your identity is something worth grasping. However change if you dislike the way it is. Improve along the way. Nothing is perfect for the first time.

Hence, make the world a little closer to perfect and rid of evil in this world. It seems impossible but isn't that what life is about? to make the impossible possible.
