12 Years a Slave

A superb movie. Based on true story, directed by Steve McQueen.

Solomon was being kidnapped and fooled to leave the Northern America to be a slave in Southern America where slavery is legal in the South. After 12 years being a slave, he was, finally, being returned to his home. This issue was brought to the court but the kidnappers were not charged in the end. This movie is good in the sense that it reminded people of cruelty which is common in the past and how we should appreciate the present. It also showed that how liberty and freedom is so limited in the past. Just one night, and everything you owned is gone, trapped and chained, and even forced to do as you are told otherwise, you will be beaten, whipped, and smacked, like a livestock. It is hard to imagine that human beings can be "property" instead of being treated equally the way you feel that you should be treated. It is hard to imagine how cruel the society can be in the past before slavery is being abolished and how fortunate we are in the present society. Woman can work and have their own rights nowadays.  This movie must have presented a number of challenge in the process of production of this film.

In this movie, it is not only the theme of slavery was brought into this movie, but also women's right, the culture of the African American and cruelty. The sound tracks of the movie also played a very important part in the movie in which it managed to portray the inside thoughts of Solomon, and its left to the audience to guess how his emotions would be and lead empathy to him.
