Summer trip 2013.

It seemed like a month has gone. But in fact it was just almost a week!

Haha. On day 1 as previous pictures were shown, I was amazed by the architecture and construction in Lyon. It is a blend of modern and okd architecture.  The streets werw straight and easy to naviagate.. haha but one downside is that one can get lost easily.

We had dinner at l'epicerie. Having known only "parlay voo oonglay" which meant do you speak English,  its hard to communicate and to order our food.  Initially, we were having a difficult time, even while we were getting our way to the restaurant. Luckily, we met a few french people who know some english. Most food menus were in french!!

Even though there are difficulties in communicating, its all good fun making mistakes and exploring new things. While making our way to the restaurant, we pass by a roundabout with a marvelous statue in the centre. Soon after that experience, its easier to ger around that zone area the second time. :)

The second day was another day with a few mistakes and the situation worsen with the rain came down pouring. We explored the old town in Lyon. First off, we took the wrong funicular to st just , then we went to fouviere and missed out the roman theatre at minimes. Hahaha. But it was quite funny. We went to the bascilica at fouviere and saw a hilltop view of lyon. Then we walked around the old town and discovered old passageways used by merchants in the past which was founded by dad.  :)

As we walked across the bridge to new town, it started to rain. Struggling our way up, after walking for about 15-20 mins not knowing our destination, we saw a tram station ahead and just hopped on it. And we started our guessing game: to guess what landmark is it.. haha because all landmarks are mostly old buildings with similar architecture with complicated french names. For example, Hotel de ville is a city hall, not a hotel. Haha :)

On the third day, we were told that there are food markets along the riverside. So we kept our stomachs empty and planned to go there for breakfast. After a discussion,  we decided to walked up to a shopping mall which is 20 mins away to take a tram. (Haha) we were so hungry at that time that McD became our breakfast in the end. (I am glad we did) because after taking the tram to the riverside,  there isnt a single sign of a market stall. But it was fine. Thw view in the late morning ia fantastic!! Many joggers and cyclist were there exercising and kids playing at a nearby riverside playground. We then walked up the riverside,  but after accepting the fact that no market exist at that location, we head for the streets. Passing through a lovely square, we hopped on another tram and head to Cordelier, where hotel de ville is. This, is where we get free pepsi and free ice lemon tea!! :D

We then head south to Confluence. At first we were searchung for a special red building. But we couldn't find its exact address. So in the end, I ask ed a lady at the tram station, she told me that all she knew that there is a big shopping mall nearby called confluence. We were quite lucky, I can say. The shopping mall is really big!! The construction is quite sustainable. And the sofas in the mall is sooo relaxing. It has wifi too ~ haha we had vapiano for lunch, which is a german owned italian food express restaurant. And we went to look for desserts. After purchasing the cake, only did I realised that the dessert is from a shop opened by paul bocuse, who is the famous Michelin star chef in Lyon.

After that, we at first plan to go to croiss roux. But alas, there wasnt enough time to make it there. So we went for a stop at the mall where we had our mc d breakfast for awhile before collecting our bags to head for aix en provence. :)

That night in aix (pronounced as ex), we were lucky that there was a public concert performance in town.  It was splendid! The dinner that night was delicious too! :) haha the only downside was the bed was not very good in our hotel.  And the wifi is restricted.  But all was good. :) :)
